Today is an emotional day for everyone in America. (if not, then you’re a shitty American) It’s almost impossible to turn on the TV, go on Facebook, read the news without the mention of what happened 10 years ago. Today we remember and reminiscence about the ones we lost in the terrible attacks against America. Also, we take today as an opportunity to show your gratitude and appreciation for the wonderful friends and family you have in your life (it’s like Thanksgiving, yall!!)

This day 10 years, I was 16 years old. Like any other teenager, I didn’t really understand the severity of the events of that day, nor did I really care at the time. I was just grateful that I didn’t have to stay in school. As I look back, I feel foolish about my reaction. Thankfully though, with time and maturity I think I can that I made up for it. I’m pretty sure the 6 years I served in the military has a lot to do with it too ;)

I have never felt as emotional about Sept 11th, as I have this last couple of weeks and more than likely it’s because it’s a milestone year, but also because I grew the hell up. It really dawned on me just how much impact this event has had, not just my own life but that of the American society. I really do have to thank the people and experiences I’ve had in the Army that has helped me open up my eyes and helped me find that source of patriotism we all should have. As unfortunate as this was to America, it also bonded everyone together as a nation. It’s a truly overwhelming feeling. For one day, just one day, together as a nation, we can push our other bullshit aside and sit comfortably with the fact that we are one of the greatest nations on Earth and when shit hits the fan, we won’t hesitate to band together.
